Wind Turbines

Market

Overview

Wind energy resources are widely distributed in China, with rich resources broken into three regions: the southeast coastal areas, “The Three North Regions” (northeast, north, and northwest) and Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Shanxi, Henan, Chongqing, Yunnan and other inland regions. Read More

Presently, the prime locations for the development of wind farms are “The Three North Regions.” However, inland regions where wind resources are abundantly distributed are at an early development stage, with anticipated huge market potential. The inland regional Provinces have planned or promulgated preferential policies for the development of wind power, so the inland wind power industry will definitely become the future hot spots for China’s wind power development.

Many prolific wind energy resource areas are situated along the southeast coast including, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan and other coastal zones along a strip nearly 10km wide with an annual wind power density above 200 w/㎡parallel to the coastline.

Abundant wind energy resources are distributed in northern areas which mainly include three northern provinces, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia and Xinjiang and other provinces (districts) in an area nearly 200 km wide with wind power density above 200—300 w/㎡, some of which could rise up to 500 w/㎡ or more; such as Alashankou, Daban City, Huitengxile, Huitengliang of Xilinhaote and Chengde Weichang, etc...

Significant wind energy resources are also distributed in inland areas including Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Shanxi, Henan, Chongqing, Yunnan and other nearby regions offering a general wind power density of 100—200 w/㎡. Wind energy resources are also abundant in some localized areas due to microclimate effects provided by nearby lakes and overall favorable topography. Technologically accepted development capacities for wind power across inland areas exceed 12,000,000kW. According to preliminary studies targeting performance for the Governments “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” the wind power install capacity for inland provinces exceeds 1,000,000 kW. Finish Reading

GC China Turbine turbines are extremely competitive in both inland and offshore locations

The company is in quantity production of the 1.0MW 2-bladed wind turbines, and is about to advance the R&D of a 3.0MW 2-bladed wind turbine for offshore applications. The 1.0MW wind turbine is extremely suitable for inland markets with extremely favorable generated electrical sales margins over competitive products.

COAST AND OFFSHORE AREAS

Windfarm overview

  • Rich wind energy resource (IEC I or II class)
  • Close to loads center

Restrictions

  • More destructive winds as the result of typhoon
  • Transportation, erection and construction of tower foundation difficult

Competitiveness of GC China Turbine Corp.

  • Extremely strong

Reason

  • Strong anti-typhoon capability; 2-bladed wind turbine can stop operation by feathering horizontally and in this case the swept area of rotor exposed in wind is virtually zero
  • Easy transportation, erection
  • Lighter, reduces the difficulty of tower foundation construction

Project under review / development by GC China Turbine Corp.

  • Shandong Haiyang  50,000kW

NORTHERN AREAS

Windfarm Overview

  • Rich wind energy resource (IEC I or II class)
  • Easy transportation and erection

Restrictions

  • Limited grid capacity

Competitiveness of GC China Turbine Corp.

  • Relatively strong

Reason

  • The 54m & 56m wind turbines were designed for I & II class wind farms

Project under review / development by GC China Turbine Corp.

  • Daqing Longjiang 50,000kW
  • Tianhe Inner Mongolia

INLAND AREAS

Windfarm overview

  • Rich wind energy resource (IEC III class)
  • Higher electricity price

Restrictions

  • Most of wind farms are located in mountain, hill areas, so transportation and erection is very difficult

Competitiveness of GC China Turbine Corp.

  • Extremely strong

Reason

  • Great advantages in transportation, erection and maintenance, especially suitable for our 1.0MW-59m wind turbines

Project under review / development by GC China Turbine Corp.

  • Shanxi Dafengkou 50,000kW
  • Hubei Qiyue Mountain 50,000kW
  • Hubei Huashanguan 50,000kW
  • Chongqing Maocao Dam 50,000kW
  • Chongqing Jinfeng Mountain 50,000kW

Note: IEC is an International Wind Farm Standard which classifies wind farms on the basis of annual average wind speed. See below for details:

  • I-class wind farm with an annual average wind speed of 10m/s
  • II-class wind farm with an annual average wind speed of 8.5m/s
  • III-class wind farm with an annual average wind speed of 7.5m/s
  • IV-class wind farm with an annual average wind speed of 6 m/s

For comparison purposes, the starting wind speed for GC China Turbine Corp.’ 1.OMW wind turbine is 3.5m/s and a steady operational speed is assumed.

It can be seen from our analysis that GC China’s wind turbines have extremely strong market competitiveness in both inland and coastal areas.

The accepted development capacity for wind farms in inland areas exceeds 12,000,000kW with current plans for near term install capacity exceeding 1,000,000kW; the install capacity for coastal areas exceeds 100,000,000 – 200,000,000kW which fully meets the needs of the company's current and future market demands. See chart below.

  • Develop and nurture new R & D and  strategically market to offshore wind farms with even larger wind turbines

China - Regional market segmentation

Northeast / Northwest - mainstream wind farms

Characteristics: good wind resource dominated by the five largest power companies with intense competition;

Advantages: Our Daqing wind farm sample project - proves low cost and high quality advantages

Strategies: adoption of the resource exchange model; towards entry into regional market competition with low cost advantage.

Inland wind farms

Characteristic: poor overall wind resource as the mountainous area causes greater difficulty in transportation & maintenance;

Advantages: GC China construction offers proven advantages in transportation, installation, maintenance and foundation costs.

Strategies: to extend the proven advantages of inland wind farms & sidestep the intense competition found in the mainstream wind farm sector.

Coastal / offshore wind farms

Characteristic: good wind resources with occasional catastrophic wind conditions. Continuing need for large-scale development;

Advantages: significant advantages in sea based construction and all-weather capability;

Strategies: pursue R&D of large wind turbine of 2.0MW / 3.0MW in order to occupy the market with unique advantages for the future.

2-blade wind turbine are especially suitable for offshore wind farms, virtually guarantees significant penetration in this market
